SIGs are community-driven collaboration forums focused on specific industries, technologies, or emerging areas of interest. They provide a space for members to share expertise, discuss challenges, exchange best practices, and align on real-world use cases across the safety-critical ecosystem. As ELISA expands into new domains, SIGs such as the Railways SIG and Space Grade Linux SIG help bring together industry experts and open source communities to address the unique needs and opportunities within those sectors.
Space Grade Linux SIG
The goal of the group is to advance space technology innovation and competitiveness by developing a common Linux distribution that can be used in space applications, ready for the challenges of deep space, often long lifespan robotic or human-based missions. The nature of space missions brings many challenges; from development to deployment there are multiple considerations that need to be considered. Furthermore, this group is the initial step towards creating an ecosystem of supported platforms and a community that benefits from them, and also from the open source nature of the project.
Railways SIG
The Railways SIG focuses on aligning Linux development with rail industry standards, addressing everything from signaling and control systems to automated train operations. It aims to inform all railway stakeholders about the extensive capabilities that open source already offers in the safety domain. At the same time, it represents their specific needs to the ELISA community, ensuring that future developments continue to benefit railway systems and infrastructure worldwide.
